A sharara set – a kurta with wide, flared pants and a dupatta – is easy to dance in and lighter than a lehenga, which makes it ideal for a sangeet or mehndi. Style World in Aintree has sharara and Punjabi suits and lehengas to try on in store, open every day 11am to 8pm.
Wedding dates start again after Dev Uthani Ekadashi on Saturday 21 November 2026, and run through December and again from mid-January. If you have a sangeet, mehndi or reception coming up, a sharara set is one of the easiest outfits to wear – and to dance in.
What is a sharara set?
A sharara is a pair of wide, flared pants, usually worn with a short or mid-length kurta and a dupatta. It moves like a lehenga but is lighter, cooler and easier to walk and dance in.
Sharara, lehenga or suit?
- Sharara: best for the sangeet and mehndi – comfortable for dancing all night.
- Lehenga: best for the wedding or reception if you want a bigger look. See our lehengas and the lehenga buying guide.
- Straight or Patiala suit: best for the puja and family events. Read Punjabi suits: Patiala, sharara or straight.
How to style it
- Colours: mustard, emerald, magenta and pastel pink are big for sangeet; deep red and gold for the wedding day.
- Shoes: block heels or juttis – the flare hides them and you’ll dance longer.
- Jewellery: statement earrings and bangles; skip a heavy necklace if the kurta neckline is embroidered.
- Summer tip: choose georgette, chinon or cotton for outdoor or daytime events.
Matching for the family
Little ones can match too – our girls’ organic cotton sharara sets start at $65. Dad can match in a kurta pyjama. Flying to India for the wedding? See what to pack for a December wedding in India, and check the wedding dates for Nov 2026 – Feb 2027.
