A Patiala suit is comfy and traditional for the gurdwara and Gurpurab; a sharara suit is dressier for weddings and parties; a straight-cut suit is the easiest everyday and work option. Style World in Aintree has suits from 1 for $45, 2 for $60. Gurpurab is Tuesday 24 November.
Gurpurab (Guru Nanak Jayanti) is on Tuesday 24 November, and wedding season is starting. If you need a new Punjabi suit, here’s how the three most popular styles compare.
Patiala suit
A short or mid-length kameez with full, pleated Patiala salwar. Comfortable for sitting on the floor and perfect for the gurdwara, Gurpurab and family functions. Pair it with a phulkari or chiffon dupatta to cover your head.
Sharara suit
A kurti with wide, flared sharara pants – dressier and great for weddings, sangeet and parties. Our heavy embroidery kurti-with-sharara sets and Indo-western sharara sets with jacket are favourites this season (see women’s range).
Straight-cut suit
A straight kameez with straight pants or churidar. The easiest to wear for work, everyday and smaller functions, and it suits most body shapes.
Which one should I choose?
- Gurdwara or Gurpurab: Patiala or straight cut, in a soft colour, with a dupatta.
- Wedding or party: sharara.
- Work or everyday: straight cut.
Women’s suits are 1 for $45, 2 for $60 on selected designs. More on the festival: Guru Nanak Jayanti 2026 – Gurpurab.
