Matching outfits are one of the biggest Diwali trends – and family photos in matching colours look amazing. You don’t need identical outfits. The trick is to pick one colour story and let each person wear a style that suits them. Diwali 2026 is on Sunday 8 November, so here is how to plan your family’s look.
Step 1: pick one colour
Choose one main colour, plus gold. Popular choices for Diwali 2026 are:
- Maroon and gold – classic and rich, looks great at night.
- Emerald green and gold – this year’s favourite jewel tone.
- Royal blue and silver – modern and easy to match.
- Ivory and gold – soft and elegant, great for photos with diyas.
Step 2: choose a style for each person
- Mum – a saree, suit, sharara set or lehenga. A ready-to-wear saree is quick to put on on a busy day.
- Dad – a silk or chikankari kurta pajama. Read our men’s kurta pajama guide.
- Boys – our sequin cotton kurta pajama ($65, ages 1–10, 10+ colours in store) is made for matching brothers and cousins.
- Girls and babies – our organic cotton sharara and dhoti sets ($65, from 6 months) are soft enough for a long night.
Step 3: tie it together
- Use the same colour in a dupatta, pocket square or hair accessory.
- Keep jewellery in one metal – all gold or all silver.
- Mix textures: silk for adults, soft cotton for kids.
